If we've said it once, we've said it a hundred times, we love raising goats! It is a daily pleasure to be a goat farmer AND be able to utilize a wonderful, natural source that they offer.
Since the first time I (country wife) ever milked a goat it always felt like I'd struck gold! It would almost kill me to lose any to a kicked over bucket or a sneaky barn cat.
Goat's milk in it's raw state is pure white, creamy and just looks luxurious. Simply put, it is a luxury ingredient when it comes to handmade soap.
We use 100% goat's milk in our soap, replacing the liquid portion of a recipe. This makes it rich in everything good it has to offer. The first thing you notice with a pure goat's milk soap is the 'creaminess'; created by just that...the creams in the milk. Although we can thank many other naturally occuring ingredients. Here's the goods on goat's milk and why you should lather up:
Vitamin A -helps white blood cells to fight infection on skin that may be the cause acne, also acts as a barrier to new bacteria
Vitamin C - required to produce collagen which is what makes and repairs skin cells
Vitamin B, D & E - all work to rid the cause of acne and create new skin
Iron - keeps skin pink and healthy
Lactic Acid (an Alpha hydroxy acid) - has an exfoliating effect which contributes to softening the skin
Fats (butterfat) - help skin to retain it's moisture
Caprylic Acid (a fatty acid) - helps to maintain the proper pH balance for our skin
*human skin is slightly on the acidic side which helps fight bacteria - the caprylic acid in goat's milk helps to raise the pH level of the lactic acid in the milk making the total pH value similar to that of our skin, therefore the skin is balanced and works as it should - commercial soaps usually have a high pH level which can remove the skins natural acid protection and leave the skin dry*
Proteins - have the ability to kill acne causing bacteria
Nutrients - can reduce itchiness, redness and soothe damaged and dry skin
Can you see what I mean when I say it's like striking gold? We are so proud to say that we get to collect this milk everyday and put it to use making a fresh, gentle, quality soap that is natural and great for EVERYONE!
